4 Paws K9 Training

My pack

Mia Hamm aka “Mama Mia”

Mia is an 1 year old lab/pit bull mix I adopted from the Animal Protection Association in St. Louis, MO.  Mia is a tiny, little girl with a huge personality. At 8 weeks old, Mia was an agility whiz. She passed an AKC Novice agility routine with an impressive score of 98!  Mia has excellent heeling and is capable of completing AKC Novice and Open routines, as well as a SCH BH and SCH II routines. Along with her Schutzhund training, Mia has proven to be quite the tracker.  At 5 months of age, she completed a SCH I track with a score of 85! Although she is only a whopping 36 lbs., Mia loves doing bite work. She enjoys “playing” with the helper and strictly does it for fun.

Mia is a Canine Good Citizen, a title she received at 11 weeks old, and has a bright future in the AKC obedience rings. We will be competing to obtain her CD and BH title sometime this coming winter

Stellarshaneequa’s Handy vom Schaferfeld  aka “Stella”

Stella is a 11 month old German Shepherd Dog for the vom Schaferfeld Shepherds in Fulton, MO.  She is from Czech import lines and is wired for the sport of Schutzhund. Stella’s favorite thing in the entire world is doing bite work! She lives and breathes to bite a sleeve!  At 10 weeks old, Stella proved to be quite the cocky puppy as she was already lunging in the air for a tug.  Stella’s heeling is a work in progress, but she is able to pass an AKC Novice routine, as well as a SCH BH routine.  Stella is also a narcotics detection dog and is able to detect cocaine and marijuana.  At 4 months old she did a narcotics search on 5 cars with 3 different finds.  She scored an impressive 100 and passed the narcotics test with flying colors!

Stella has a bright future in the sport of Schutzhund and I plan on competing with her as soon as she is old enough to compete. Stella is the epitome of a German Shepherd Dog in that she is a fierce protection dog but also a very sweet, affectionate dog.

Harley

Harley is a 9 year old Lab/Beagle mix with a lot of personality.  Harley is my grumpy old man who doesn’t like much but sleeping, eating, and going for walks.  He spends probably 21 hours a day sleeping, curled up in a little ball on his favorite chair that looks out the front window.  Harley is definitely a watch dog, as he barks at anything that comes near his house. Harley is afraid of his own shadow and requires a light touch when it comes to training.  He is very sensitive and gets scared of any little change in his world.  He is a sweet boy and would be happy to live his life on our couch, fast asleep dreaming about his younger days of wrestling and running around with his buddies. He makes a great pillow!

Gump

Gump is a 4 year old Vizsla mix who was found in a trash can as a puppy in downtown Chicago.  I rescued him when he was about 6 weeks old and he got to grow up in a doggie daycare.  He was the social butterfly who was able to jump fences in order to visit all his “friends!” He would jump from pen to pen, playing with all his other doggie friends.  Being that his “mom” worked at the daycare, Gump was also able to enjoy the luxury of napping on couches and chaise lounges when he was too tired to play. Little did I know that sleeping on couches and blankets would be Gump’s favorite activity!  Today, Gump enjoys sleeping and eating the most. We call him the Velcro dog because he has to constantly be touching someone.  He tries to be a lap dog and loves affection and cuddling. Gump is a fast learner and I plan on teaching him agility, since he has springs for feet and will do anything for food.
